$50,000 Tech Valley Collegiate Business Plan Competition

Three teams of students vied to win the Rensselaer’s $50,000 Tech Valley Collegiate Business Plan Competition. FA Tech Ventures staff John Cococcia (rounds 1 and 2) and Claire Wadlington (final round) served on the judges panel.
The winning company was TekAlert. The three finalists were:
- 7-Solutions Inc. is producing and developing the Anti-Tremor Device (ATD) for Parkinson’s patients, an eletro-mechanical unit designed to detect and respond to the onset of a tremor with a physical stimulus to dampen and visibly eliminate shaking effects associated with the disease.
- Bullex Digital Safety Equipment has developed the Intelligent Training System (ITS), a device designed to drastically reduce the costs and resources involved in fire extinguisher training.
- TekAlert has developed the Team Accountability Buddy System (TABS), a wireless tethering system to aid firefighters in burning buildings from getting separated from their team.
